Blockage of the NATO base in Souda, Chania from the 19th to 21st of july
Pan-cretan Call for 10 days of continuous mobilization against the on-board high risk hydrolysis of Syria’s civil war chemicals in the Mediterranean Sea
On Tuesday 8th of July at labor CCNR at Chania more than 150 people met (citizens, representatives of institutions, church and political parties, institutional local administration representatives, members of the coordinating assemblies of Chania, Heraklion and Rethymno, Citizens of Rethymno Against Chemicals etc) to discuss the proposal of an action at the NATO base in Souda.
- given the widespread will of participants for the blockage of the base, which was in fact put by many as an alignment with the unchanging claim for shutting the NATO base,
- given the demonstrations in many cities of Greece against the hydrolysis experiment in the confined of the Mediterranean Sea,
- and the forthcoming gathering in Athens on 11/7 on Syntagma square organized as well against the war chemicals in the Mediterranean,
We call for a popular nationwide mobilizing that will begin on Friday, July 11th and will culminate a week later, to the three-day blockade of the NATO base of Souda on 19-21 July 2014.
Specifically:

1. We call a nationwide week of action in any way that local communities will consider appropriate to exercise all pressures to consent to the experiment Greek government and the governments of the participating countries (ports and state agencies occupations, spreading the news, marches, hanging banners or handing out flyers in different languages, etc.)
2. The culmination of these events will be the weekend of July 19-20-21 (Saturday - Monday) with the blockage of the NATO base in Souda. The continuation or not of the blockage will be decided again at the open assembly of all participants.
3. We call the PNO (Panhellenic Seamen Organization) as well as all labor centers throughout the island and out of it, not only to materialize their commitments for a substantial engagement to our struggle doing work stoppages and strikes during the 10 days of mobilization, culminating in strike on the third day of the blockage (Monday 21/7).
4. At the same time the long-announced onboard protest with boats that will approach Cape Ray at the position of hydrolysis is being prepared. In the meantime, we invite every professional fisherman and owners of any watercraft to participate in blocking the NATO base from the sea.
5. We call “ANEK lines” to provide a ship in order to board those who wish to participate in the onboard protest in international waters.
6. Also, the meeting decided that mayors of Crete meet with the ambassadors of Russia and the USA as well as with the prime minister of Greece.
7. We call everyone on a nationwide and European level to come and enhance with their presence the venture of blocking NATO base, actively stating that this case concerns us all. Those who can not travel can organize actions in their places parallel to our climax.
WE DEMAND:
The immediate cessation of hydrolysis experiment, which aims, among others things, to the popular acceptance of the confined Mediterranean Sea as a waste disposal site for chemical weapons, as has already been initiated according to data available to us.
Stop the production of chemical weapons.
The Mediterranean shall cease to be the chemical wasteland and grave refugees of war refugees.
